A study by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry shows that people with an attractive smile appear more intelligent, friendly, interesting, and successful. Porcelain veneers are a great way to improve your smile.
Porcelain veneers are thin layers of porcelain that adhere to the surface of your teeth. Veneers are used to improve the look of teeth that have discoloration due to diet, oral habits, previous dental work, or prescription drugs. Others use them for chipped or uneven teeth, alignment problems, or to close the gaps between their teeth. Porcelain veneers are unnoticeable when placed on the teeth, making them an excellent solution for these problems and more.
Preparing for Veneers
Our staff will provide an examination and consultation before you receive your veneers. During the consultation, we will discuss your goals, the results you can expect, a treatment plan, and an estimate on what the process will cost.
How the Veneer Process Works
The veneer process takes place over two visits after your consultation. On the first visit, you will have a thin layer of enamel removed from each tooth that will be receiving veneers. This is to prepare the surface of the tooth for the veneer. Impressions of your teeth will be taken and sent to our lab, where the permanent veneers will be made. Between visits, you will have temporary veneers that look and function like your natural teeth.
At the final visit, your teeth will cleaned and roughened, allowing a strong adherence of the veneer to the tooth. The veneers will then be custom fit to your teeth and checked for correct fit and color. After they are permanently attached, your bite and any other necessary adjustments will be made.
Caring for Your New Veneers
You care for your new porcelain veneers the same way you care for your natural teeth: by brushing twice a day and flossing regularly. Avoid drinking beverages that stain teeth and eating hard foods, such as ice. Caring for your veneers properly can make them last ten or more years.
